PRAYERS TO OPEN THE OBI ABATA SYSTEM

BASIC PRAYERS TO OPEN THE OBI ABATA DIVINATION SYSTEM

ORIKI PRAYERS PRECEDE ALL RITUALS

Prayers and Oriki Libation is a very important part of all IFA ORISA RITUAL no matter how simple or complex. Oriki dates to INDIGENOUS AFRICA this is the act of PRASE, and ACKNOWLEDGMENT to the energy whom you are calling on for its gifted blessings. All ORIKI LIBATION PRAYER is handed down through the individual ILE (House) so many prayers will be shared in a IFA, YORUBA ORISA this dates to the ANCESTRAL LINERAGE and is an entitlement of the initiated priest, priestess, chiefs, Babalawo, Iyanifa, god children etc.

This act of prayer assists in opening the consciousness of the individual participating in the ceremony to establish contact with the DIVINE FORCES being praised and served to align the consciousness of the individuals with the consciousness of the DIVINE FORCES.

In this blog the study and focus is six very simple prayers are being

presented for use in opening BASIC OBI ABATA DIVINATION involving communication with ones EGUN ANCESTERS or ONES ORI, the Crown Chakra.

The first prayer is an opening invocation that calls on either one’s ORI or one’s ANCESTORS. This prayer will first get the attention of the DIVINE FORCES, then it petitions a request for all their blessings. This request will include blessings in ones life and within the divination that is about to commence.

If you do not have an EGUN SHRINE / ANCESTOR SHRINE set up and concentrated, you may dedicate this opening prayer to your ORI, one should select one or the other. If you have an EGUN, ANCESTOR SHRINE you may also alternate and solute your ORI on another time. This selection will determine whom you are casting OBI to.

ORISA OYA

ORISA OYA

OYA

OYA is one of my favorite ORISA’S in fact I love her energy and essence, she has no trouble falling into combat mode and she will take it all the way there if need be. You wouldn’t want to get in her path once she sets it in motion. I just love the ZERO to three sixty in a heart beat. This is my personal feeling, allow me to elaborate further on her essence.

OYA is seen in aspects as the WARRIOR SPIRIT of the WIND, LIGHTENING, FERTILITY, FIRE and MAGIC. She will take it to the AIR, WATER or FOREST makes her no difference. She creates HURRICANES, TORNADOWS which are said to be her SKIRTS FANNING and WHIRLING as she dances, LIGHTNING and all kind of DESTRUCTION happens. Her skirts are very colorful with NINE BRIGHT COLORS of choice except black. As She dances her face has an expression of really big and open eyes and she breathes and blows up her chin and often screams. OYA, also, often will dance with a HORSE TAIL. OYA is the ORISA SPIRIT provoking CHANGE, TRANSITION and TRANSFORMATION RAPID CHAOS always follows.

OYA is the GUARDIAN of the UNDERWORLD. OYA also governs the wind pipe and lungs, therefore she is the FIRST BREATH and the LAST BREATH of life. She is the escort into IKU, KU (DEATH) or from the PHYSICAL WORLD into the SPIRITUAL WORLD.

OYA is also the OWNER OF THE MARKET PLACE and is capable of the SUCCESS or DECLINE of BUSINESS. The wise one will consult with an OYA PRIEST or YORUBA ORISA PRIEST to petition her FAVAROBLE assistance and outcome for business practices. PRIOR to ALL BUSINESS ENDEAVORS. The initiated GOD CHILDREN would be wise to see if OYA would accept them and allow you to receive the secrets for your self. The fee for these SECRETS vary from house to house, but pay the costs no matter how much you will have no regrets. Believe me!

In the IFA YORUBA community it is said EARTH or AIYE is a MARKET PLACE, and HEAVEN is HOME. IFA further says we come to AIYE to overcome all the trappings of the MARKET PLACE to return HOME to ORUN HEAVEN.

OYA lives at the GATES of CEMETARIES, as apposed to the entire underworld, which reveals her in her aspect as the FACILATOR of TRANSITIONS.

DEATH does not always refer to a PHYSICAL DEATH, it also means the end of a NEGATIVE SITUATION. IT also means a TRANSFORMATION from NEGATIVE PROGRAMED THINKING PATTERNS to a REPLACEMENT in a POSITIVE thinking pattern. TRANSFORMATION doesn’t have to be difficult. The difficulty is when an individual is unwilling to release to old and replace with the new and better served mind set. So, OYA will assist one in complete spiritual and physical transformations as well. NOT JUST THE FINAL ONE.

Because of OYA’S close association with the passage from LIFE into DEATH this also means she is one of the few ORISAS which are worshiped along side the EGUN, ANCESTORS whose CULT is most often DISTINCT from that of the ORISAS. The reason she is worshiped with the EGUNGUN is because the EGUNGUN are her CHILDREN.

In the stories of the faith she can transform herself into a WATER BUFFALO. ONE of her favorite offerings is EGGPLANT, and her number is NINE.

ADIMUS OFFERINGS

EGGPLANTS, DARK COLORED FRUITS, PLUMS, DARK GRAPES, LIQUOR BOURBAN, RED WINE OR PLUM WINE, FRIED BEAN CAKES, SPICY RICE AND BEAN A MEAL WIND CHIMES, MULTICOLORED RIBBONS, OR CLOTH, COOL WATER, THINGS FOUND AT THE CEMETARY ENTRANCE, KOLA NUTS, HONEY COMB, COWRIES AND COPPER

In the YORUBA the name OYA means “SHER TORE” and she is known as OYA – IYANSAN translates to OYA the MOTHER of NINE.

YORUBALAND as ODO- OYA traditionally being known for having nine tributaries.

In BRAZIL, CANDOMBLE she is generally saluted with the phrase EPA HEYI

YORUBA salute her by saying HEKUA HEY YANSA

ORISA AGANJU

ORISA AGANJU

AGANJU

AGANJU is the ORISA of VOLCANOS, the wilderness and the RIVER. AGANJU is know as the THIRD ORISA to come to AIYE, the EARTH. AGANJU is also an ORISA of great antiquity and is essential for growth and cultivating civilizations.

Like the volcano with which he is also associated , he forms the foundation upon which societies are built and is the catalyst for the production of vast amounts of wealth and commerce needed for advanced development.

AGANGU is most highly regarded by ORISA PRACTITIONERS for his role in assisting humans in overcoming great physical and psychological barriers.

Like the volcano, AGANJU is noted for his legendary strength and his ability to bring about drastic change.
AGANJU has the strength and capacity to deliver people out of bondage and carry the heaviest burdens.

AGANJU is heavily associated with SANGO in different carnations he was the FATHER of SANGO in another he was his BROTHER.

AGANJU is also associated with OSUN in which in one carnation he was in a relationship with OSUN. In another carnation he had a relationship with YEMAJA. The ORISA have incarnated into AIYE for thousands of years and have interacted with one another on several occasions.

Physically, AGANJU represents the shoulders, and he has a STRONG, POWERFUL and DETERMINED FORCEFUL CHARACTER when needed to be.

AGANJU is recognized as being of the DEIFIED ROYAL FAMILY of OLO NIGERIA in INDIGENOUS AFRICA.

AGANJU is considered as one heart with OYA and he is received by all of SANGO, OSUN and OYA followers.

HE IS THE ORISA THAT CARRIES ONE THROUGH GREAT OBSTACLES AND THROUGH DANGEROUS TIMES. HE IS THE FERRYMAN THAT ESCORTS ONE ACROSS THE GREAT RIVER.

His colors are white, dark red and maroon in some houses. His ritual number is three. AGANJU is often propitiated along with SANGO on THURSDAY

THE IBEJI

THE IBEJI

IBEJI

In the YORUBA ORISA TRADITION we call and refer to all MOTHERS who produce two at birth, twins, IBEJI, IYA IBEJI which translates as MOTHER OF TWINS. The IBEJI are indigenous to OSUN and SANGO who brought this miraculous energy into AIYE as a gift to civilization.

In IFA studies of the IBEJI it is share that in the life force pre birth that force possesses both masculine and feminine energies; after birth one remains in ILE (SPIRIT) as the other descends into AIYE (EARTH) this forms a TRINITY or TRINE. The SPIRIT in ILE serves as a warning to US on AIYE. This is represented as the FIRST MIND, the one we seldom listen to. I am sure you remember thinking, dang I should have followed my first thought. Well, this was your GUARDIAN SPIRIT sending you a message of warning. This energy also gives you a spiritual grounding, recognized once you have been initiated into a YORUBA HOUSE or ORISA HOUSE, you are comfortable with our with us THE DAUGHTERS OF OSUN. Once you are called into to receive your ELEKES, (BEEDS) you will feel a deep reconnection and protection you will know the difference.

The IBEJI is a very powerful energy it brings a psychic awareness, cosmic force that is strong and forceful. A mother who has TWINS has a hard time with this energy in the house coming through the twins and her life is very hectic and hard to keep balanced. In TRADITIONAL YORUBA LAND a BABALAWO will advise the mother to have another child to counter the force and restore the balance in her life. Without doing this the mother runs the risk of insanity.

IBIJI, is represented by two wood carved dolls a male and a female that is prepared by a priest in ritual ceremony. The IBEJI always receive offerings in pairs. They are miraculous miracle workers especially for money matters. They also can help in intuition increases as well. The IBEJI are delightful spirits and bring joy in abundance. In some instances their colors represent their parents colors gold, coral, clear, red and white. Our IBEJI are bright colors of BLUE and PINK in a specific pattern.

THE EGUNGUN

THE EGUNGUN

EGUN

The EGUN, (ANCESTORS) are not ORISA, the EGUN are our departed relatives who had unfinished tasks with US in AIYE, (EARTH PLANE). Our relatives well, everyone for that matter ask to accomplish certain missions, prior to birth. Here I will only touch on this subject briefly, more detail is revealed through IFA STUDIES, following initiations. WE make the choice of the ORI we choose, in this choice lies our karmic attachments, GOOD or BAD. We tend to gravitate to the familiar, then WE pass the tree of forgetfulness. Once we are born GIRLS on the SEVENTH DAY, and BOYS on the NINETH DAY, our parents take US to the BABALAWO the CHIEF PRIEST for our NAMING CEREMONY, and LIFE PATH DESTINY READING. Present for this significant consultation destiny reading are our PARENTS, GRAND PARENTS on BOTH SIDES, OUR GOD PARENTS BOTH, GOD FATHER and GOD MOTHER and our GOD PARENT IYALORISA, and BABALORISA are present. Everyone is instructed in this special ITA LIFE PATH (DAFA) CONSULTATION as to their ROLE and RESPONSIBILITY in the CHILDS LIFE, that will enable this child to accomplish their life destiny. The specific name is called forth through DAFA to invoke certain character and blessings every time the name is called. The spirits are there to engulf the individual in blessings and specific spiritual and physical entitlements. This my friends is the intended TRADITIONAL CULTURAL BLESSINGS our INDIGENOUS ANCESTORS had in place for us.

Since slave trade, and cultural abandonment and crossed tribal breeding and yes It the missionaries pushing Christianity and rewriting and stealing and raiding temples of sacred secret knowledge and feeding up cloaked designed scraps of programed controllable substance for so many thousands of years, we now find ourselves so confused and dysfunction we can not see the forest of truth for all the herbal trees standing before us. WE, are so far away and removed from our own, TRADITIONAL CULTURAL PRACTICES, that we are blinded, ignorant, angered and dummed down that we can not hear truth and are paralyzed in movement towards it. Think about it, ponder it and research for your selves.

OUR EGUN, (ANCESTORS) did not accomplish their destinies and therefore can not set at the RIGHT FOOT of OLODUMARE (GOD) so they are aimlessly floating through the endless space if ILE (THE SPIRITUAL REALM) with out connection to their departed loved ones. In the state of KU, IKU or SPIRIT they have no physical body and can not do anything without OUR assistance, your assistance. OUR EGUN, OUR ANCESTORS walked before US, they prayed for US and they brought US into this realm, AIYE, EARTH, HERE and NOW, WE OWE THEM, this is why civilized people recognize their departed ones. EVERY CULTURE does it except African American Christians, because the slave master did not write that in the bible. So our ancestors are wondering through space aimlessly through out eternity. This interrupts the natural order of our TRADITIONAL CULTURE and we are wondering why we are having so much trouble on earth, and generationally I am speaking.

The EGUN are your personal ANCESTORS, who will do anything for you. They have your best interest and they need you honor, your recognition, and your prayers and your reverence to them. In return they will assist you, and work in spirit to protect you. They can do more from the SPIRITUAL REALM, ILE REALM and they can protect you spiritually as well, you and your relatives here on AIYE, EARTH. They can make sure your prayers are received in the kingdom of heaven, ORUN. Your whole life will begin to turn around if you correct this detail in your life. Contact Iyalorisa Adunni for details on how to set up your EGUN SHRINE she can consecrate it for you and get you started. If you have questions please call (661)480-9730.

The EGUNGUN are special masquerade festivals, this is preformed at funerals, in parades for the cleansing of the souls of the villagers. The EGUNGUN, while in masquerade form has the ability to cleans and purify the souls of every one and to remove the evils that lurk.

The EGUNGUN represent a collective of departed priests, elders, and pillars of the community, who come in spirit to heal and remove and protect the community.

THE OBI COCONUT DIVINATION

THE OBI COCONUT DIVINATION

THE COCONUT

The FRESH COCONUT that has been broken into FOUR PIECES for use in DIVINATION is often called OBI. The actual YORUBA word for COCONUT is agbon, so we see that calling the COCONUT OBI actually refers to its ritual use rather than its actual botanical nature.

When an individual uses a coconut for divination it signals to the spirits to be patient this is a BRAND NEW DIVINER. The energies will go easy and allow for your mistakes. Especially when it has the WHITE MEAT on one side and the DARK MEAT on the other.

This system is KEPT FRESH and inside a container with FRESH WATER and in the refrigerator. This should be RINSED OFF daily before using for DIVINATION PURPOSES.

The WHITE side represents UP, and the DARK side represents DOWN. The NEW DIVINER should use the YES and NO SYSTEM of questions. The NEW DIVINER should ask questions that has an answer of YES or NO as an answer.

THE KOLA NUT

Is the fruit of the KOLA TREE that is native to the tropical rainforests of Africa. The caffeine containing fruit of the tree is sometimes used as a flavoring ingredient in beverages and is the origin of the term “COLA”

The KOLA NUT has a bitter flavor and contains caffeine. It is chewed in West African Cultures Individually or in a group setting. The KOLA NUT is used in Ceremonies in IFA, ORISA and in the DIVINATION PROCESS. Sometimes it is required to share the OBI with IFA or ESU, ORISA and the individual is required to chew the KOLA NUT. The KOLA NUT is presented to CHIEFS and or is Presented to guests. The KOLA NUT is preferred among AFRICAN MUSLIMS, who are forbidden to drink alcoholic beverages.

MEDICINAL PROPERTIES of the KOLA NUT

By chewing KOLA NUT is eases hunger pangs.. Great as a diuretic. It is also used to ride whooping cough and asthma. The caffeine present in the KOLA NUT acts as a BRONCHODILATOR, expanding the BRONCHIAL AIR PASSAGE.

Among the IFA YORUBA COMMUNITY the KOLA NUT is referred to the word OBI as it is referred to in this blog as FRESH KOLA NUT native to Africa specifically the OBI ABATA, also known as the KOLA NUT, FALLS under the scientific classification cola acuminta or cola nitida. The KOLA NUT ranges from white to dark red in color.

The Indigenous Elders of West Africa reported that the OBI came to AIYE (Earth) with his two sisters, OBI ABATA and OBI GBANJA. OBI ABATA, the type used in DIVINATION is made up of FOUR LOBES that are split open and used as both an ORACLE and as OFFERINGS to the ANCESTORS and ORISA. The FOUR LOBE KOLA NUT is sacred and used for divining purposes. The others with three lobes and better are used in other ways. (Medicinal etc.)

IT is the OBI ABATA that is a stable ingredient in most sacred IFA/ORISA rituals and celebrations. The other OBI are used in various ways it is the four lobed OBI, also known as IYA OBI, (MOTHER OF OBI) that will be the FOCUS for divining purposes.

The OBI GBANJA is the KOLA NUT that only possesses two lobes. OBI GBANJA is not used in OBI divination, although it is consumed by people for secular reasons, mainly due to its high concentration of caffeine and us a stimulant. ONE should be aware that it is mainly OBI GBANJA that is found in stores that Offer KOLA NUTS for sale. ONE SHOULD CAREFULLY EXAMINE THE KOLA NUT MAKING SURE THE OBI ABATA HAS 4 LOBES, WHEN LOOKING FOR OBI FOR DIVINING PURPOSES AND RITUAL PURPOSES.
